Best (free) credit card to pay in foreign countries?

Hey 🙂

I'm planning a trip in South Korea and realize my credit card has terrible conditions and fees for payments in foreign countries.

I was advised to make a revolut account and use their credit card while I'll be traveling.

I remember that there was a comparison of cards on the blog including recommandations for payments in foreign countries but I can no longer find it.

Can anyone here help me out or suggest the best option?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Best,

Hi Asheen,

The best recommendation is to use a debit card first (Revolut is also a debit card). For instance, you could use Radicant or WIR Bank Top.

If you really need a credit card, then they are pretty much all bad. Even when some like the one from Migros Bank claim to be cheap, they are simply hiding fees on the backend. I am not aware of any good credit card to use abroad.

I'll look into how foreign debit cards are accepted in shops and businesses in South Korea. I guess I'll still carry some cash and my bad credit card, just in case.

Thanks again. I appreciate it.

I'm not familiar with virtual cards.
Are they meant to be used in Google pay or apple pax, for instance?

Is WIR bank top better than Radicant in my case?
They have the same exchange rate, so they should be the same in your case.

A virtual card can be used online and through mobile payment systems, indeed. With Radicant, you can also order a physical card for 15 CHF.
