IBKR: multiple automatic currency conversions vs 1 manual one

If you want to buy shares of multiple USD ETFs on IBKR, what is cheaper? The auto currency exchange or a manual one? For example:

Let's say you want to buy 500$ shares for 3 different ETFs, using ~1500 CHF. Is it cheaper to manually turn those CHF as a whole into USD and then buy the 3x500 USD in shares, or is it cheaper to buy the shares directly (and have IBKR auto-exchange to USD 3 times), without manually turning the CHF into USD first?

Hi,

The rule is rather simple: It's cheaper to do an automated currency than a manual currency conversion for a conversion below 6500 USD. And there are no fixed costs to an automated conversions, so you can add them up.

So, in your case, it will be cheaper to do 3 automated conversion than one manual conversion.
