Resources to motivate someone to gain interest in their finance

Hi everyone,

I've been interested in handling my finances properly ever since I started working. As soon as I began earning a salary, I started looking into the best bank accounts, how to manage any extra money, build a small emergency fund, and eventually how to invest my money.

I've been with my girlfriend for a long time, and she's not interested in this kind of topic at all. I've tried to explain the basics to her, and I think she understands, for example, that inflation decreases her buying power, but still, she hasn't taken any action. She has quite a large amount of money (more than she needs for an emergency fund) just sitting in the bank.

Anyway, I don’t want to force her to take care of it. I’d much rather she becomes genuinely aware of how important this is, so that she’s willing to take action on her own, or even together with me, but it should come from her.

Do you have any resources, ideally videos (since I don’t think she’d want to bother reading articles), that could help her understand why this matters?

Thank you very much!

Hi

That is an excellent question. I don't really have a recommendation for videos, since I don't consume many myself.

My recommendation would be to work the other way around. Discuss what are her long-term goals. She may want to buy a house, retire early, be financially independent or tour the world. Then, you can estimate how much it would take with and without investing and maybe she'll be responsive to the numbers?
