Hi,

I would like your opinion on a design question :)

For months, I have used a different design in my reviews, with sections separated differently. I am now thinking of doing the same for articles.

Here are the two different versions
A) https://thepoorswiss.com/tax-at-source-in-switzerland/ (the current version)
B) https://thepoorswiss.com/fr/impot-a-la-source-en-suisse/ (the reviews style applied to an article)

It would be great if you could vote to let me know what you think, and I would also appreciate any comments on the styles!

For me, surely B is better. It feels easier to read and to keep the attention on the article because it is delivered in "small protions" instead of the long text.

I personally find A more natural... B doesn't look so esthetically pleasing to me. Also, most blog posts are structured like version A.

Thanks for the feedback so far. Since the tally is not entirely clear, I will also ask this in the next newsletter and only then take a decision.

I'm testing on a 1080x1920 screen, on windows. I personally prefer version A, as "boxing" the content doesn't add much to it in my opinion. It might also be because of the box needing more padding.
What would be best in my opinion is to keep version A, but to decrease the number of characters per line by a little bit, basically to have the div box for the text at 60% or less of the whole screen (not for mobile of course). That would increase readability.
Also I find the body text at 18px slighlty big. Reducing it to 16px might help with readability.

There are a few others things like maybe giving more vertical space between each section and after a title.

ps: I used to work as a UX-UI Designer and teach in that domain, so happy to help with more if needed

I already find the display too narrow (set at 1024px), so I am not going to make it any narrower.

But it's true that I have three 4K monitors, so it's definitely not the same as a 1080p monitor.

Do you have it rotated to 1080 width? In this case, it will probably not display very well, that' something I can improve.

Doesn't this go against your first advice? Generally, larger text is more readable.

I I sent you a screenshot of how it looks on my laptop of 1080p, for reference. I don't have it rotated. The text is taking a little too much of the width which makes it harder to read. (It's happening on both my 1080p laptops). A quick fix might be to switch from a width set with pixels to percentage of the total screen.
I'm only telling you this as 1080p is generally the most popular resolution (compared to 4k).

Generally, yes, I'd agree with the statement up to a certain point. (24px body text might be better suited for titles). Most design system use 16px for body text, but it's true that 18px is not too far from that.

Hope you'll find this information useful,
Good night to you
