Interactive Brokers – BTC no longer available in IBKR GlobalTrader app?

Hi everyone,

I’ve noticed something interesting with the two Interactive Brokers apps on iPhone: IBKR GlobalTrader (the simplified app) and IBKR Mobile (the more advanced one).

It seems that I can no longer buy Bitcoin (BTC) through GlobalTrader, while it’s still possible through the regular IBKR Mobile app.

Has anyone else noticed this? I’m wondering whether this is an intentional change, a temporary issue, or perhaps something specific to my account.

Just to be clear, I’m not looking to start a debate about whether Bitcoin or crypto is a good investment. I’m fully aware of the risks involved, and crypto makes up less than 2% of my total investment portfolio.

I’m also curious about which IBKR app you guys prefer using. Do you use GlobalTrader or IBKR Mobile, and why? Are there any particular features or advantages that make you prefer one over the other?

I do know that Global Trader is a special app for global investors, it might come down to some regulations, but it's still weird.

I only use the web app and I don't even have any of their apps installed on my phone.

As discussed on The Poor Swiss forum, direct crypto trading (like Bitcoin) has been removed or restricted on the IBKR GlobalTrader app, likely due to updated regulatory compliance or app streamlining by Interactive Brokers.

Workaround:To continue trading crypto through IBKR, simply switch to the main IBKR Mobile app or use the Web/Desktop platform (Client Portal or TWS), making sure crypto trading permissions are enabled in your account settings.
