Has anyone tried DSL from Mucho Mobile?

Hi all,

My apartment doesn't have optic fiber available yet. I'm using the Home 5G plan from Yallo for 25 CHF per month, normally I get 20 mb, but lately with the World Cup or depending of the internet usage it can get as slow as 4 mb.

Has anyone tried DSL in Switzerland specifically with Mucho Mobile? Is the speed upload and download speed simetric? What about the customer service?

When I was a kid, in my home country we used copper connection with 50 mb speed, and it worked well. I remember it's like with optic fiber, provider doesn't matter much because is expected to be stable and "just work", but I would like to confirm it's the same here in Switzelrnad.

Thank you.

I don't have any experience with internet from Mucho. My mother has DSL internet. In her case, the up- and download speeds are pretty much as advertised. I think this is the case for most DSL internet. Much providers have symmetrical internet speed, including Mucho.

I have not tried Mucho but have tried multiple offers from Swisscom over time. Not all offers are symmetric, mais non-fiber are actually asymmetric with usually 5x to 10x less upload speed.

But usually, DSL just works. It's more stable than phone coverage.

I have a few examples on the blog:

Thank you both for your reply. I will probably swap to DSL with Mucho.

But before taking any step I would like to check with you this "Digitalanschluss" bill that we received a couple of months ago from WWZ, charging us 119.6 CHF for services we've never hired. We called and told them that we are not using any digital service and they cancelled the contract and the bill.

Is this Digitalanschluss related to the usage of the copper connection? If I hire DSL will I have to pay these 119.6 CHF every 4 months? If not, what the hell it is and how did they create an account under my name without authorisation?

As far as I know, WWZ is a bit like cablecom. It offers a regional network. So, yes, it's related to the usage of the connection.

However, if you opt for mucho (or any non-WWZ provider), you should not have to pay this fee. In theory (I am not in Zug, so not entirely sure), you should have two connections in your house, one for WWZ and one for standards DSL providers.

Based on my interpretation of this website, this Digitalanschluss means you have a fibre connection in your home. It seems there is a monthly fee if you use any services through this fibre connection. The monthly fees includes digital TV and digital radio, but no internet.

This is very strange. It reminds me of the (very) old days when you had a TV connection in your home that provided a TV signal once you plugged in a cable. You paid a monthly fee for this connection with the assumption that everyone would use it to watch TV. I was not aware that this system survived into the modern fibre day. I have fibre internet in my apartment with just the monthly internet bill, no any basic fibre connection fee.

If I hire DSL will I have to pay these 119.6 CHF every 4 months?
No, you will not, since you will not be using any services through your fibre connection.

Again, this sounds like a stupid system. In general, fibre is the preferred and more modern internet connection compared to DSL. In general, fibre is also cheaper than DSL. But in your case, the older technology (DSL) seems to be the cheaper one.

how did they create an account under my name without authorisation?
maybe check your rental contract or any communication that you might have received (and possibly ignored) from the landlord or WWZ.

Thank you so much for your help. I can't understand how are they willing to charge me for optic fiber if I don't have access to it. Or at least, I cannot get any optic fiber offer from Swisscom and other suppliers.

Anyway, I can see the picture in a more clear way now. Again, than you both for your help!

Have you tried? Normally, any provider of fibre internet would be able to make you an internet offer.

The situation in Zug seems to be different than in Zurich (where I live). WWZ is both the infrastructure provide (fibre cable and OTP box) and service provider (internet, TV, phone, ...). Your Digitalanschluss comes from the infrastructure part of WWZ. If you chose to have your internet through WWZ fibre offer, you would pay WWZ another monthly fee for their internet service.
In Zurich, EWZ provides the infrastructure (fibre, OTP). It's up each tenant and home owner to find and contract a company (not EWZ) for internet services (Swisscom, Mucho, iway, init7, Salt, ...).
