Tool to track Swiss reference interest rate changes

Hey everyone!

As a fellow fan of optimizing fixed costs, I wanted to share a project I recently built that might save some of you a few hundred bucks on rent:

www.referenzzinssatz.ch

If you’re renting in Switzerland, you probably know that your rent is linked to the Swiss mortgage reference interest rate (hypothekarischer Referenzzinssatz). The Federal Office for Housing updates this rate 4 times a year. When the rate drops, tenants are legally entitled to ask for a rent reduction—but unless you actively track it, landlords rarely pass on the savings automatically.

To make things effortless, I created this free service where you can:

  • Subscribe to free email alerts: Get notified as soon as the reference rate changes (and whether your specific baseline means potential savings for you).
  • Generate a rent reduction letter: Input a few details about your current lease, and the tool builds a ready-to-send letter for your landlord.
The next official update is coming up on December 1, 2026.

It’s completely free to use. I’d love for you to check it out, give it a try, and let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions!

Cheers

Thanks for sharing, that could be very useful.

I like that you generate the letter directly without asking for an email. I hate when tools ask for an email just to deliver a PDF.
